Facilitator/Coordinator

In November of 1998 I had a surgical proceedure which caused nerve damage therefore putting me in the situation of being a chronic pain sufferer. In June of 2000 things were further exasperated by a single vehicle motorcycle accident which resulted in a broken collar bone, cracked pelvis, and other soft tissue injuries.

At this point I was a sufferer and I thought I was alone on the journey.

I had the opportunity to participate in a Pain Self-Management group and I found that I was not alone. I learned that there was no such group on PEI and I decided to start a support group to have a forum to discuss various issues.

This is where I became a survivor, with the realization I am not alone on this journey.

There is definetaly a need for a support group!

Through education, chronic pain survivors can learn new ways of coping with their pain. The group meets on a bi-weekly basis. At each meeting, different topics will be discussed. Guest speakers are invited to share their valuable knowledge on various issues that affect Chronic Pain. These speakers include experts from the medical community, Naturopaths, Occupational Therapists as well as persons surviving Chronic Pain.

Topics covered, include pain management, memory loss and pacing your days, addictions. Friends and family members are welcome and encouraged to join our group. I have found this to be most beneficial to both the sufferer/survivor and the family.

Persons who benefit from this group suffer from conditions including: back injury, neck or shoulder pain, arthritis, sciatica, fibromyalgia, nerve damage, TMJ, RSD, lupus, interstitial cystitis, diabetic neuropathy, migraine headaches, post polio just to name a few.
